BVI Music Festival at Cane Garden Bay (2009) BLOG (1 reply)

Held every year in the British Virgin Islands at Cane Garden Bay ocean front is the BVI Music Festival. An array of local and international musical artists performs for visitors from all over the world. This event usually happens around the third or fourth week in May. The event brings a time of togetherness and excitement in the British Virgin Islands. Three days of Calypso, Reggae, Rhythm & Blues, Jazz and Fungi music (local to BVI).

From its inception the British Virgin Islands Music Festival showed potential to become one of the featured yearly events in the BVI. The music festival was first started by Frank Mahoney in 2000 with the help of local and government sponsorship. The festival was first a free event but the burden of improving the quality of the event for the thousands of visitor the BVI Music Festival committee saw a need for a small surcharge of $5 which grew to $20 in 2009. Over the year the BVI Music Festival has gone through many changes such as the inadequate parking at Cane Garden Bay in Tortola has caused the BVI government to restrict driving to Cane Garden Bay during the three night period in which the BVI music festival is held. The only persons that are able to drive to Cane Garden Bay are residents of the area who usually have to obtain a resident pass, person with VIP passes who are mostly Sponsors and person with a parking pass that may have brought from local resident and business operating in the area. All other persons heading to the British Virgin Islands Music Festival must get there by way of shuttle service. The shuttle service leaves from 2 main areas which are at the BVI Government Administration Complex in Road Town and Capoons Bay field (near Bomba Shack). These Shuttles charge a price of $5 pp one way. The shuttle operates every night from about 7pm until 11pm to Cane Garden Bay and from 11pm until the end of the show back to car parks at Capoons Bay and Road Town. Buses stop at the check point where the $20 surcharge or a ticket must be given before entering Cane Garden Bay.

Cash only is accepted for attendance and from most vendors at the BVI Music Festival. Dress code is whatever you like but I recommend shorts and flip flops. This way while the festival is in motion you can walk and play along the shore line at the beach in which some people enjoy. Vendors line the length of the beach selling everything you can imagine for local food and beverages to Rastafarian clothing and accessories. Many of the beach bars such as Stanley’s Welcome Bar and Myetts at Cane Garden bay also stay open during the course of the night and offer anything from their full menu. In the harbour at Cane Garden Bay many yachts and power boats anchor just out the swimming area and watch and listen to the music festival. Some sailors get into a small boat or canoe and linger around the shore line for a close up experience. The stage at BVI Music festival has already been graced by such performers as Jerry Butler, Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley, En Vogue, Jeffrey Osborne, Wycliffe Jean, Freddie Jackson, Percy Sledge, The Drifters, Daddy Yankee, Sizzla and the list goes on.

BRANDYWINE BAY RESTAURANT REVIEW (BLOG) (no replies)

This restaurant is decorated in an Italian style setting and why not because it is an Italian restaurant. On arrival the small lawn area is welcoming with just enough light to give u that romantic Italian feeling. Once you get inside some walls and floor have the ancient Caribbean like stone masonry that adds a special elegant look. On arrival waiters and waitresses will give you the option of having a three or four course dinner or just hang out in the “Cicchetti bar”. If available this seating area out on the terrace gives a good view of the lights on Peter Island about 2 miles away and other ships and yachts in the Sir Francis Drake Chanel. An advantage of Brandywine Bay Restaurant in the British Virgin Island over other restaurants is that the staff really goes to the limit to explain every item on the menu to the table and knows the menu really well. Theses guy don’t just tell you the specials. Well with this kind of service you will probably be wondering what dinner at Brandywine bay in the BVI will cost. Well lets’ just say 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, 1 dessert and 4 glasses of wine cost me $160 US which included an 18% gratuity. This Cost is relatively average for restaurants of similar calibre to Brandywine Bay Restaurant. The dishes were fairly good and the service was truly outstanding. Dishes alternate on a regular basis and include such things as roast duck, homemade pasta and Swordfish. They are open Monday to Saturday from 6:00 p.m. until. Appetizers cost between $8 -$14 and entrees $30-$43. They are located about three miles east of Road Town at Brandywine Estates, they accept major credit cards. Hey are normally closed during August to October approximately. They can be reached at 284-495-2301

NEW PUSSERS EAST RESTAURANT IN THE BVI (BLOG) (no replies)

Pussers East – For those of you who don’t know the restaurant next to Hodge’s Greek “Fat Hogs Bob in Road Town Tortola was recently changed over to a Pussers Restaurant. The Pussers chain is well known in the British Virgin Islands with a Pussers restaurant and store in four different locations in the BVI. Pussers Sopers Hole, Pussers Road Town, Pussers Marina key and now Pussers East located across from Hodges Creek Marina. Pussers Levericks Bay restaurant in Virgin Gorda disappeared a long time ago, now replaced by “The Restaurant at Levericks Bay” but The Pusser's Co. Store at Levericks Bay still remain carrying a full line of Pusser's products. I think what Pussers is trying to tell us is that no matter where you are at on Tortola you are always close to a Pussers, so eat there. This new Pussers location seems to be a little more “classy” than the rest of the locations. Some decorations are a little tacky like big sharks and fish above the kitchen walls. Kinda reminds me of the decoration at the jaws ride at Universal Studios Orlando. The rest of the restaurant you can find the usual Pussers “British Navy” decorations and gift shop. At Pussers East sometimes there is also live entertainment something that is not common at the other locations. The menu has pretty much of anything you would like from Rack of Lamb to the usual Pussers Wings. Outside dinning over the water is very nice but the east breeze comes in very cold sometimes so please bring a jacket. You can take off the jacket after you have about 4 0r 5 of the famous Pussers painkiller drink. By this time you wouldn’t feel anything, I encourage you to try Pussers East on your next visit to the BVI and let me know how it went.

Celebrity wedding – Jim Clark and Kristy Hinze held in the BVI (BLOG) (no replies)

(MY BLOG)

March 23-2009, The British Virgin Islands was happy to host the wedding of Netscape Co-Founder and billionaire Jim Clark, 64 and Australian supermodel Kristy Hinze, 28. The four day period of activities wereplace between the billionaire’s 100 million dollar yacht as well as, Richards Branson Private “Necker Island” which rents for about $40,000 dollars a night and all ended up at Rosewood’s Little Dix Bay Hotel which was first built by Laurance Rockefeller and Charlie Cary in the 1960’s. Performing at the wedding was none other than Mr. Cheeseburger in Paradise and The Margaritaville man, Jimmy Buffet. Although the resort was closed to the public residents of the British Virgin Islands enjoyed a magnificent display of fireworks at 9:45pm. The wedding somewhat followed the trend of Billionaire and google’s co-founder Larry Page that was held in the British Virgin Islands in 2007. This wedding also involved the use of Richards Branson Private Necker Islands, Little Dix Bay Resort and Ferry Companies.
